REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

COULD IT CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

Regenerative Medicine in Longview is a natural therapy for restoring and improving joint pain and function through the use of biologics. Platelet-rich plasma injections and Mesenchymal stem cell injections taken from either bone marrow aspirate, adipose tissue, or Wharton's Jelly from umbilical cord-derived tissue are some of the biologics currently used in clinical practice.

Regenerative medicine has grown tremendously in recent years, especially in the fields of orthopedics, sports medicine, and integrative physical medicine clinics as an effective treatment for conditions like knee osteoarthritis and tendonitis.

First Choice Medical Center only uses regenerative products that follow proper compliance and criteria through The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) and are regulated through the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) under the 21 CFR 1271 and Section 361 of the PHS Act.

PLATELET RICH PLASMA

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy has been used for decades in treating a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. This is because platelets contain growth factors that have shown to aid in tissue healing, recruitment of our own mesenchymal stem cells, and provide significant anti-inflammatory effects that reduce pain and improve function. PRP is an "autologous" blood product that is obtained from a sample of a patient's own blood then placed into a centrifuge. The concentrated plasma products are then re-injected into the affected area, usually the patient's intra-articular joint, ligament, or muscle.

PRP serves as an option for patients who are looking to postpone a joint replacement surgery or for those patients who have not responded to non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods.

WHARTON'S JELLY AND MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are natural cells produced by our bodies that offer regenerative potential, slowing or halting chronic disease as well as improving function and pain in joints, ligaments, and muscles. MSCs can be harvested from a patient's own bone marrow, adipose tissue, or from healthy donated allogeneic homologous umbilical cord (UC)-derived tissue rich in Wharton's Jelly.

WHARTON'S JELLY

A recent 2020 randomized study analyzed the number of growth factors, cytokines, hyaluronic acid, and extracellular vesicles in donor-selected umbilical cord tissue-derived Wharton's Jelly.

The results indicate a higher number of numerous growth factors present in Wharton's Jelly UC-derived allogenic tissue, compared to bone-marrow aspirate or adipose tissue MSCs, which is why here at First Choice Medical Center we are treating our patients with UC-derived Wharton's Jelly tissue for regenerative therapy.
